
Lorenzo Francheschini
Biography
Dr. Lorenzo Franceschini is a distinguished researcher specializing in RNA technology, with a particular focus on mRNA-based therapeutics, cancer immunotherapy, and individualized vaccine design. He earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Leuven, building on his earlier academic training at the University of Oxford, and the University of Rome La Sapienza.
Currently professor of experimental immunology and immunotherapy at the University of Brussels Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), and co-founder of Persomed, a VUB spin-off company, where he spearheaded the development of an innovative personalized mRNA-based neoantigen vaccine. His pioneering work has resulted in multiple patents, with regard to synthetic RNA development and high throughput validation of mRNA-based personalized candidates for immunotherapy. His research contribution has been published in leading journals, such as Molecular Therapy: Nucleic Acids, Clinical Cancer Research, NPJ vaccines.
Dr. Franceschini’s work has earned him multiple grants and opportunities to present internationally. With a dynamic career marked by groundbreaking research, innovative applications, and ambitious collaborative projects, including the consortia COVARNA, BAXERNA and CHIMERNA, he continues to push the boundaries of synthetic biology and therapeutic innovation.
